PRIME CATTLE
Total number of cattle sold 179 including 25 steers, 84 heifers, 70 bulls.
Northallertons weekly primestock sale included a slightly smaller entry of prime cattle than last week but continuing with good commercial quality. Prime heifers topped the market at 218.5p/kg with a Belgian Blue from W Bainbridge purchased by J. Nutter on behalf of Bowland Foods. A Blonde DAquitaine bullock topped the steer section at £1049.50 from Hugill Partners purchased by J Penny & Sons. A smaller entry of bulls this week but sold well topping 176.50p/kg with Limousin X from P. K. Drinkwater.

Slightly smaller entry of lambs this week with a total of 1061 with trade marginally down on last week averaging at 134.80p/kg topping at 165p/kg from A. R. Sutcliffe with a pen of Texel X lambs purchased by J Penny & Sons. Top price per head went to Donaldson Partners with a pen of Texel X lambs again purchased by R Schofield for £74.80 on behalf of S Howarth. A smaller trade of cast ewes this week with an average of £44.58. A top price of £75.00 went to Campbell Partnership with a Continental X ewe.

Show and Sale of Breeding Sheep
Northallerton Auctions second breeding sale of the season indicated a healthy trade ahead for breeding sheep with higher demands from increased numbers of buyers ring side. Increased demand for breeding sheep led to a promising average of £109.47 per head for mule shearlings rising to £116.24 per head for Continental shearlings. 1st prize Continental pen of D. S and J Bridge Texels topped the market at £129.00 per head and R. G. Johnson took 1st prize in the mule class and topped the mule section with £126.00per head creating high expectations for the next breeding sale.

An increased number of larger beasts entered this week led to a better trade then previous with prices remaining constantly good throughout the sale averaging at £685.06. A limousin X steer topped the market at £912 from R & M Tate.
